Alley Spring Mill is a National Historic Site and part of the Ozark National Scenic Riverways. This historic red mill is one of the prettiest sites in the Ozarks in the fall. Visits to the mill are free and you may take a self-guided tour to learn how the mill was used to grind wheat to flour. There are hiking trails around the mill and an overlook. This is a favorite place for fall photos. To make the most of your visit, I recommend arriving early in the morning for the best photo opportunities, packing a picnic lunch, and taking the time to explore the charming one-room schoolhouse. Additionally, the area offers wheelchair-accessible viewing spots, ensuring that everyone can appreciate the beauty of this picturesque location.
Watching wild horses roam freely is one of our favorite experiences in Eminence. There are approximately 35 horses in two herds. Over the years, we have seen the horses at Echo Bluff State Park and Round Spring. If you ask the rangers at the state park, they will give updates on the horses. We frequently find them in the early morning at the state park, and mid-afternoon around Round Spring, though their habits are not consistent. We visit Welch Spring Hospital Ruins on our Current River Float Trips. This hospital was built as a refuge for people seeking cures from the natural spring water. Now, it is a beautiful stop along the river where you can explore the spring, hike a short trail, and see the ruins of the hospital.
8. Rocky Falls: Nature's Water Park

Rocky Falls is one of our family's favorite spots. The breathtaking 40-foot waterfall offers a natural playground. Our family has enjoyed playing in the water, hiking, and climbing the waterfalls. Please be aware that all activities are undertaken at your own risk. During a drought or dry season, water levels will be low, but after rain, it becomes beautiful and scenic, so keep an eye on the weather to plan your visit.
I recommend bringing water shoes, as the rocks can be slippery and don't forget to pack your picnic supplies since there are tables available for your convenience. Be sure to include towels and a change of clothes for everyone, especially since swimming is best enjoyed during the warmer months. Keep a close eye on everyone around the water for safety, and take advantage of this beautiful location, which is perfect for capturing memorable family photos.

Peck Ranch is a 23,763-acre conservation area and preserve where you can view elk and deer on the auto tour. The self-guided auto tour route is designed to be accessible for all ages and abilities. The best opportunities for wildlife viewing occur at dawn and dusk. Don’t forget to bring binoculars, as well as snacks and water. Be sure to check for any seasonal closures related to elk management to make the most of your time.
